Team Via Nova

Nazaré Storms, a passionate equine surgeon from Antwerp, developed her passion for horses at the age of seven and knew early on that she wanted to become a veterinarian. She successfully achieved this at three different Belgian universities (Bachelor's degree in Louvain-La-Neuve, Master's degree in Ghent and internship in Liège), which allowed her to hone her language skills (Dutch, French, English) and familiarise herself with the working methods of different clinics.

In 2022, she became one of the youngest Diplomates of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (Dipl. ECVS). During her residency, she learned the tricks of the trade as a surgeon and emergency doctor at the University of Liège's equine clinic. She joined the Via Nova surgery team in October 2023. Her main interests lie in orthopaedic procedures and emergency surgery. She also has a particular interest in ethology (behavioural sciences). Nazaré therefore approaches your horse in a calm yet decisive manner.

During her career, Nazaré has completed several internships in Europe (Grosbois in France, Rossdales in the United Kingdom, Hanseklinik für Pferde in Germany, Evidesia Stromsholm in Sweden, University Clinic in Denmark and Austria) and at UC Davis in America. In addition to her PhD, she has exhibited award-winning clinical posters at veterinary conferences in Europe and regularly gives presentations to fellow surgeons and students. As the author of several scientific articles in veterinary journals, she remains active in research. In addition to her work at the clinic, she is completing her PhD on laminitis at the University of Liège. In her spare time, Nazaré enjoys horse riding and unconventional travel.
