Internal Medicine Treatment

At Via Nova, we employ a variety of treatments to accurately address the underlying causes of complaints such as reduced performance or other internal health issues.

Possible treatments

Medication

Medications often play an important role in treatment. Depending on the condition, we can create an individual plan that may include anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, gastric protectants, or medication for the heart, digestive system, respiratory system, or metabolism.

If necessary, the horse may also be hospitalized for more intensive treatment of issues such as respiratory, gastrointestinal, or kidney/bladder problems.

Nutrition and management are key components of recovery for internal conditions. Depending on the diagnosis, we provide guidance on targeted dietary adjustments, taking into account factors such as energy requirements, sugar and starch content, and potential toxins.

Other aspects, such as feeding schedule, forage quality, housing, exercise routine, and stress reduction, can also influence recovery. We offer tailored advice based on medical findings and the individual horse’s situation. Additionally, a personalized parasite management plan can be developed.

Physiotherapy can support recovery in cases of muscle or mobility issues. Treatments may be applied in consultation with a specialized equine physiotherapist. The physiotherapist can also provide guidance on exercise, workload, and training progression appropriate to the clinical condition.

Some conditions, such as certain muscle disorders or metabolic issues, can be inherited. It’s important to consider a horse’s genetic background in these cases. If needed, we may recommend genetic testing to identify potential risks.

For horses that are more susceptible, preventive measures such as tailored diet, training, and management, can help reduce the likelihood of future problems.
